METRO RTA and the Summit County Board of Developmental Disabilities present “Look Beyond: An Art Show for All Abilities” at the Robert K. Pfaff Transit Center.

Located in the Center’s art cases at 631 S. Broadway St., the art show highlights local artists with developmental disabilities and features various styles and pieces of art, some of which are for sale. It is free and open to the public. Artwork will be on display through Tuesday, January 29th.

A closing reception with the artists will be held Thursday, January 17th from 4-6 p.m. in the Center’s community room. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

METRO’s Art in Transit program provides local artists an opportunity to showcase their wares in the display cases at the downtown Akron hub where more than 5,000 people pass through daily. Located near the Center’s main entrance, the cases offer passengers a chance to check out local artists’ creations while they wait for their buses.

“This is a great opportunity for us to expand our partnership with the Summit DD Board,” said METRO Executive Director Dawn Distler. “There’s a lot of talent right here in Summit County and we are pleased to showcase it to the thousands of people that pass through our facility daily.”

“We appreciate METRO’s Art in Transit program and the fact that it supports the talents of people of all abilities,” commented Summit DD Superintendent John Trunk. “These artists deserve to have their work spotlighted and feel appreciated for their talents.”

Trunk went on to explain how the collaborative spirit among organizations in Summit County is helping to make it a leader in the state for disability services.
