METRO RTA is hosting a 12-hour open house hiring event where potential applicants are invited to test-drive a bus on Wednesday, February 22 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event’s objective, in conjunction with a similar hiring strategy used in August 2022, is to showcase bus operator positions and the benefits of working at METRO by providing applicants the opportunity to test-drive one of the buses used daily on METRO routes. Applicants should expect the process to take approximately one hour.
“The success we had in August with the first Come Drive with (B)us event was astonishing,” said METRO CEO Dawn Distler. “We want to continue to show the public that METRO is not only a viable career, but a very sustainable and advantageous career at that. Our first hiring event brought us the largest training class in METRO history, and those team members are out on the roads in our community today.”
Attendees must bring a valid Ohio driver’s license and three references. Attendees will visit different stations where they will learn about working at METRO as a bus operator. They will have their license verified, fill out an application, go through a short interview, and learn how to secure a mobility device. All attendees that complete these steps will have the opportunity to test-drive a bus.
The event will take place at METRO’s Administrative Office location, 416 Kenmore Blvd., Akron, Ohio 44301. Candidates must be at least 18 years old with no more than two points on their license to apply.
