METRO will be providing free-fares from Aug. 14 through Aug. 20 for all fixed-route and demand response services as a way of thanking all passengers for their unwavering loyalty after winning Akron Urban League’s Community Champion Award.
The annual nominations allow for community members to receive recognition for making a difference in Summit County. METRO RTA was proud beyond measure to nominate a group of persons who kept the community moving through the numerous challenges of the pandemic – their riders.
“We recognize that safe, accessible, reliable, and equitable transportation is necessary for our riders to get where they need to keep our community thriving and moving forward,” said METRO CEO Dawn Distler. “It’s a privilege to provide essential services to essential people. Thank you for your trust in us, it does not go unnoticed.”
Akron Urban League is hosting an annual gala on Aug. 13 at the John S. Knight Center. Several fixed-route and demand response METRO passengers have been invited to attend the event, where they will enjoy dinner and dancing, and their impact on the community will be recognized and honored.
“Community engagement comes in many forms. When we put the call out for community awards nominations, we encountered so many deserving people and organizations who are making a difference in their respective neighborhoods,” said Akron Urban League President and CEO Teresa R. LeGrair. “During the selection process, we were challenged to choose from a pool of such outstanding nominations. All of the nominees have put their needs behind being in service to others, which is only a fraction of what makes them deserving of recognition. Our honorees understand that the gift of kindness, combined with action, is what makes a difference in people’s lives. The Akron Urban League is excited to recognize their excellent work and celebrate the impact they are making!”
All METRO services, including demand response, will be free from Aug. 14 through Aug. 20.
