METRO RTA, in conjunction with Uber, today announced the launch of Uber Transit Ticketing within the Uber app, enabling residents and visitors of Summit County to seamlessly buy METRO bus passes. METRO is one of 13 participating agencies throughout Ohio and Kentucky with tickets available in Uber.
When users opens the Uber app and enter a destination, transit will show as a transportation option. Upon selecting transit, the user will see real-time transit data, trip-planning and end-to-end directions.
Once users selects their route of choice, they can select to purchase and redeem a bus pass using their existing payment profile. Tickets and passes will be stored in the “Transit Tickets” section of the Uber app. Users will activate bus passes upon boarding. Wi-Fi or cellular data is needed for purchase; it is not needed to activate the bus pass. The boarding process will remain touch-free with the use of visual validation.
Uber Transit Ticketing is a result of a partnership between NEORide, an Ohio-based council of governments comprised of 15 transit systems including METRO; Uber, and Masabi, the company bringing Fare Payments-as-a-Service to public transit.
“We are excited to expand our collaboration with NEORide and Masabi to plan, pay for, and navigate public transportation in Ohio and Kentucky all within the Uber app,” said David Reich, Head of Uber Transit. “As cities look for expanded ways to facilitate mobility during these times, this partnership is Uber's latest step in helping to make transit more accessible so everyday needs like groceries, checkups, and pharmacy visits are more within reach.”
